VOLUNTEERISM UP FOR BID TO SUPPORT A WORTHY CAUSE To raise money for United Way of Calvert County in her campaign as candidate for Queen of the 2009 Mardi Gras, Dunkirk Safeway Manager, Patricia Snyder, is placing her volunteerism up for bid. Need help around the office, or an extra hand in the yard? The 3 highest bidders will win an 8 hour day of labor to include one or more of the following: cleaning, gardening, cooking, raking leaves, filing, errands, office or retail work. Your bid for help from Patricia Snyder will also amount to a tax-deductible donation supporting 30 human service organizations in Calvert County that improve lives, like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Calvert Hospice, the Arc of Southern Maryland, and more. Patricia Snyder decided to run for Queen of United Way's Mardi Gras for all the right reasons. Forget the fame, the glamour- she cares about her community and wants to make it a great place to live for everyone. Patricia is a longtime resident of Calvert County and manager of the Dunkirk Safeway store. She is also a grandmother of 11, 6 of whom live in Calvert County.

"I am amazed at what United Way does for the residents in our county. I encourage you to visit the United Way website to learn more about all the programs that they support. As I talk to people I realize how unaware they are of the important role United Way plays in bettering the lives of people in our community."

Patricia has organized numerous fundraising events to raise money for United Way, and all dollars raised count as votes for her candidacy. So far, she has conducted a raffle for a big screen TV, held a Holiday Shopping Home Show at the United Way house, and is planning a Passionate Broadway Cabaret Show at Friday's Creek Winery on Saturday, January 31. CLARE O’SHEA SINGS CABARET TO BENEFIT UNITED WAY
Dunkirk, MD – January 4, 2009 – Patricia Snyder, candidate for Queen of the United Way Mardi Gras, is pleased to announce a special evening of delectable food and fine wines, accompanied by a great show, "Passionate Broadway" featuring songstress Clare O’Shea, to help raise funds for the United Way of Calvert County. The event will take place Saturday, January 31, 2009, from 7 pm to 10 pm at Fridays Creek Winery in Owings.
Guests are invited to enjoy the surroundings of this Calvert County winery with its elegant décor and art displays, while sipping delicious wine, and experiencing the enchantment of Clare, a gorgeous, cabaret chanteuse, sharing original stories of love, joy and sorrow, polished with wit and comedy. ionate Broadway" has garnered the praise of fans and critics alike.
In a recent review of "Passionate Broadway" Dick Wilson, Bay Weekly, wrote "Clare O’Shea establishes herself as a sole occupant of the cabaret niche in Calvert County, where the big city star now makes her home." A reviewer from the Los Angeles Times described Clare as "a combination of Bette Midler, Andrea Marcovicci, Maria Callas and Jessica Rabbit." Clare O’Shea has been a professional actor, singer, writer and producer in Los Angeles and New York for over 25 years. She has acted in films for Academy Award winning director, Ron Howard (Splash), and Academy Award nominated director Andrew Davis (Above the Law), among many other major feature and independent films. She has performed in national network television shows such as Murphy Brown and NYPD Blue, as well as theatre in Los Angeles and Off Broadway in New York. Her most recent role was starring as "Sister" in the Off Broadway one woman interactive comedy hit, Late Nite Catechism. Clare’s awards include the Los Angeles Dramalogue Award for Best Actress and the Los Angeles Ovations Awards for Best One Person Show for Loving Out Loud.
